Amex Platinum Tightens Digital Entertainment Credit Rules

American Express is making a small but important change to the Digital Entertainment Credit on the personal Platinum Card. Beginning August 1, 2026, Peacock bundles and add-on subscriptions will no longer qualify for the monthly credit.

The Platinum Card offers up to $25 in statement credits each month (up to $300 annually) on eligible digital entertainment purchases after enrollment. Peacock remains an eligible partner, but only standalone Peacock subscriptions purchased directly from Peacock will qualify going forward.

Here’s what the terms say:

Changes to the Digital Entertainment Credit Benefit

Effective August 1, 2026, Peacock bundled services subscriptions, add-on services subscriptions or services subscriptions purchased through a third-party will be ineligible for the Digital Entertainment Credit benefit. You will still be able to earn up to $25 in statement credits monthly by purchasing standalone Peacock subscriptions directly from Peacock, or eligible subscriptions with other Digital Entertainment Credit partners in the U.S. with an enrolled Platinum Card, for a total of up to $300 per calendar year in statement credits across all Cards on the Account. Additional terms apply; visit global.americanexpress.com/card-benefits/detail/digital-entertainment/platinum.

This change will likely close a “loophole” that some cardholders had been using to get Apple TV+ covered through Peacock’s bundled subscription options. Since the charge was processed by Peacock, it currently triggers the Amex credit even though Apple TV+ wasn’t an eligible service on its own. I expect that option to no longer work once the new terms take effect.

The good news is that the rest of the Digital Entertainment Credit remains unchanged. Eligible services continue to include:

  • Disney+
  • Disney+ Bundle
  • ESPN streaming services
  • Hulu
  • The New York Times
  • Paramount+
  • Peacock (standalone subscriptions only)
  • The Wall Street Journal
  • YouTube Premium
  • YouTube TV

Conclusion

This won’t affect all Platinum cardholders, but it’s disappointing for anyone who was using the Peacock bundle to effectively receive Apple TV+ at no extra cost.
