Save on Amazon Purchase by Applying Credit Card Points

Amazon regularly runs targeted promotions for cardholders who link eligible credit cards and use their rewards at checkout. These deals can make an otherwise poor-value redemption worthwhile by unlocking a sizable discount or an Amazon gift card.

Right now, targeted American Express cardmembers can save up to 50% on eligible purchases by redeeming $3 in Reward Dollars, while select Citi cardholders can earn up to $25 in Amazon gift cards by redeeming ThankYou^® Points. A separate targeted Amex promotion also provides $15 off after adding an eligible card to an Amazon wallet.

Here’s what you need to know about the current Amazon Shop With Points and add-a-card promotions, including how to check your eligibility and whether each offer is worth using.

Active Amazon Shop With Points Promotions

Amazon routinely offers several “one-point” promotions, which are often renewed without notice. It’s worth periodically checking the links below to see if you’re eligible for a new offer — even after they are listed as expired at the bottom of this post. Or, if you see that you’re not eligible now, consider checking back to see if your eligibility changes.

From what we can tell, if you are eligible, you will see the offer. If you’re not eligible, you’ll see a notice saying that you aren’t eligible. If the offer isn’t running, the landing page may appear blank.

Amex: Use $3 in Reward Dollars for up to 50% off

• Deal: Get up to 50% off eligible Amazon purchases — with a maximum discount of $80. Your specific offer may vary.
• Must redeem at least $3 in Reward Dollars
• Valid through: December 31, 2026, or until the offer is fully redeemed.
• Restrictions: This targeted promotion is available to select Amazon customers with an eligible U.S.-issued American Express card that earns Reward Dollars.

Even though this offer requires more than the single point associated with many previous Amazon promotions, redeeming $3 in Reward Dollars to save as much as $80 is still an excellent trade. Your targeted discount may be smaller, so confirm the savings before checking out.

Amazon also may automatically apply more Reward Dollars than the promotion requires. Make sure to reduce the redemption amount to $3 before completing your purchase.

Citi: Redeem ThankYou Points to get up to $25 in Amazon gift cards

• Deal:
  • Redeem $20 in Citi ThankYou^® Points (2,500 points) toward eligible Amazon purchases to receive a $10 Amazon gift card.
  • Then, redeem a total of $125 in ThankYou Points (15,625 points) to receive a second Amazon gift card worth $15 — for $25 in combined gift cards.
• Valid through: December 31, 2026
• Gift card delivery: Amazon will add each gift card to your linked account within 30 days of reaching the corresponding redemption threshold.

The first redemption threshold is the better deal. Redeeming 2,500 points provides $20 toward your purchase plus a $10 Amazon gift card — $30 in total value. Those same points would be worth $25 when redeemed for cash back, so targeted cardholders come out $5 ahead.

However, completing the entire promotion is less compelling. Redeeming 15,625 points provides $125 toward Amazon purchases plus $25 in combined gift cards, for $150 in total value. Redeeming those points for cash back would provide $156.25. Thus, it makes sense to stop after earning the first $10 gift card unless you have no better use for the points.

Amex: Add an Amex card to get $15 off a purchase of $15.01 or more

Amazon’s convenience is great, but the chance to save up to 50% on your purchase is even better. While redeeming credit card points to cover Amazon orders is generally not advisable, redeeming the minimum required amount of rewards — or adding an eligible card to your account — can be worthwhile when it unlocks a much larger discount.
